The road ahead.

Waiting for train train at Elgin Station

I recently met one of my high school teachers at Rondebosch station. I was on my way home after a particularly sad encounter with an former friend and naturally I was in a state of confusion and regret. Since the incident between myself and the friend in question many years ago, I had always felt a sense of sadness and disappointment about the way in which I dealt with it. "I could have done better...I could have been braver." However, regret remains just that, if we are not able to open ourselves to teachings of reconciliation and forgiveness.

What started out with the conventional greetings turned into a deep sharing of wisdom and understanding. The enrichment of his words and his ability to reflect on life humbly and with an openness to learn, astounded me. In that hour of my life I was filled with awe and gratitude that I was able to connect with this man and through him connect to God. We all have a past, and in that past we may have buried many experiences and occurrences that we wish we had dealt with differently.Herein lies our wisdom, if we are brave enough to face them directly and deal with them with humility and faith.

From my heart to yours

Jay
